How Prince George's prayer times are worked out

From Prince George, the Qibla is 17° from true north. Face north to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,473 km (7,129 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Prince George's own coordinates (53.92°N, 122.75°W), not a national average. That is why Prince George's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Prince George timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Prince George lies well west inside its Vancouver time zone. So the sun peaks about 79 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:56 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 18h 07m near June down to 9h 15m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Prince George come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Grande Prairie, Kamloops and Kelowna. Each is only a few minutes off Prince George's clock.
