Grande Prairie Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Grande Prairie, Canada

Prayer times in Grande Prairie are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (55.17°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Canada. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Grande Prairie's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Canada and across the United States. They are drawn from Grande Prairie's own coordinates (55.1667°N, 118.8027°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Grande Prairie's prayer times are worked out

From Grande Prairie, the Qibla is 20° from true north. Face north to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,260 km (6,997 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Grande Prairie's own coordinates (55.17°N, 118.80°W), not a national average. That is why Grande Prairie's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Grande Prairie timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Grande Prairie lies well west inside its Edmonton time zone. So the sun peaks about 124 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:40 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 18h 22m near June down to 9h 04m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Grande Prairie come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Prince George, St. Albert and Edmonton. Each is only a few minutes off Grande Prairie's clock.
