Nanaimo's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Canada and across the United States. They are drawn from Nanaimo's own coordinates (49.1664°N, 123.9400°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Nanaimo's prayer times are worked out

From Nanaimo, the Qibla is 16° from true north. Face north to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 12,003 km (7,458 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Nanaimo's own coordinates (49.17°N, 123.94°W), not a national average. That is why Nanaimo's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Nanaimo timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Nanaimo lies well west inside its Vancouver time zone. So the sun peaks about 84 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:01 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 21m near June down to 9h 50m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Nanaimo come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Brighouse-City Centre, Downtown Vancouver and Vancouver. Each is only a few minutes off Nanaimo's clock.
