How Brighouse-City Centre's prayer times are worked out

From Brighouse-City Centre, the Qibla is 17° from true north. Face north to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,986 km (7,448 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Brighouse-City Centre's own coordinates (49.17°N, 123.13°W), not a national average. That is why Brighouse-City Centre's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Brighouse-City Centre timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Brighouse-City Centre lies well west inside its Vancouver time zone. So the sun peaks about 81 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:58 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 20m near June down to 9h 50m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Brighouse-City Centre come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Vancouver, Renfrew-Collingwood and Metrotown. Each is only a few minutes off Brighouse-City Centre's clock.
