How Renfrew-Collingwood's prayer times are worked out

From Renfrew-Collingwood, the Qibla is 17° from true north. Face north to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,976 km (7,442 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Renfrew-Collingwood's own coordinates (49.24°N, 123.04°W), not a national average. That is why Renfrew-Collingwood's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Renfrew-Collingwood timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Renfrew-Collingwood lies well west inside its Vancouver time zone. So the sun peaks about 81 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:57 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 21m near June down to 9h 49m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Renfrew-Collingwood come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby East Hastings, Metrotown and Vancouver. Each is only a few minutes off Renfrew-Collingwood's clock.
