Virginia Beach Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Virginia Beach, Virginia

Prayer times in Virginia Beach are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (36.85°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Virginia. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Virginia Beach's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Virginia and across the United States. They are drawn from Virginia Beach's own coordinates (36.8529°N, 75.9780°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Virginia Beach's prayer times are worked out

From Virginia Beach, the Qibla is 57° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,679 km (6,636 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Virginia Beach's own coordinates (36.85°N, 75.98°W), not a national average. That is why Virginia Beach's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Virginia Beach timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Virginia Beach lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 72 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:49 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 12m near June down to 10h 55m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Virginia Beach come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Norfolk, Richmond and Woodbridge. Each is only a few minutes off Virginia Beach's clock.
