Norfolk Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Norfolk, Virginia

Prayer times in Norfolk are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (36.85°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Virginia. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Norfolk's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Virginia and across the United States. They are drawn from Norfolk's own coordinates (36.8508°N, 76.2859°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Norfolk's prayer times are worked out

From Norfolk, the Qibla is 57° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,702 km (6,650 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Norfolk's own coordinates (36.85°N, 76.29°W), not a national average. That is why Norfolk's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Norfolk timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Norfolk lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 74 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:50 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 12m near June down to 10h 55m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Norfolk come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Virginia Beach, Richmond and Woodbridge. Each is only a few minutes off Norfolk's clock.
