Iowa City's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Iowa and across the United States. They are drawn from Iowa City's own coordinates (41.6611°N, 91.5302°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Iowa City's prayer times are worked out

From Iowa City, the Qibla is 46° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,399 km (7,083 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Iowa City's own coordinates (41.66°N, 91.53°W), not a national average. That is why Iowa City's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Iowa City timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Iowa City lies well west inside its Chicago time zone. So the sun peaks about 75 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:51 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 55m near June down to 10h 33m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Iowa City come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Madison. Each is only a few minutes off Iowa City's clock.
