Herndon Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Herndon, Virginia

Prayer times in Herndon are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (38.97°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Virginia. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Herndon's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Virginia and across the United States. They are drawn from Herndon's own coordinates (38.9696°N, 77.3861°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Herndon's prayer times are worked out

From Herndon, the Qibla is 56° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,654 km (6,620 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Herndon's own coordinates (38.97°N, 77.39°W), not a national average. That is why Herndon's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Herndon timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Herndon lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 78 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:55 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 30m near June down to 10h 46m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Herndon come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Sterling, Falls Church and Washington DC. Each is only a few minutes off Herndon's clock.
