Calgary Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Calgary, Canada

Prayer times in Calgary are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (51.05°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Canada. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Calgary's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Canada and across the United States. They are drawn from Calgary's own coordinates (51.0501°N, 114.0853°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Calgary's prayer times are worked out

From Calgary, the Qibla is 25° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,562 km (7,184 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Calgary's own coordinates (51.05°N, 114.09°W), not a national average. That is why Calgary's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Calgary timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Calgary lies well west inside its Edmonton time zone. So the sun peaks about 105 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:21 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 37m near June down to 9h 37m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Calgary come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Airdrie, Red Deer and Lethbridge. Each is only a few minutes off Calgary's clock.
