Saanich Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Saanich, Canada

Prayer times in Saanich are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (48.55°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Canada. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Saanich's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Canada and across the United States. They are drawn from Saanich's own coordinates (48.5496°N, 123.3693°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Saanich's prayer times are worked out

From Saanich, the Qibla is 16° from true north. Face north to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 12,057 km (7,492 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Saanich's own coordinates (48.55°N, 123.37°W), not a national average. That is why Saanich's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Saanich timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Saanich lies well west inside its Vancouver time zone. So the sun peaks about 82 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:59 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 15m near June down to 9h 54m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Saanich come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Victoria, South Surrey and Brighouse-City Centre. Each is only a few minutes off Saanich's clock.
