Prayer Times in Rochester, New York

Prayer times in Rochester are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (43.16°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across New York. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Rochester's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in New York and across the United States. They are drawn from Rochester's own coordinates (43.1566°N, 77.6088°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Rochester's prayer times are worked out

From Rochester, the Qibla is 56° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,410 km (6,468 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Rochester's own coordinates (43.16°N, 77.61°W), not a national average. That is why Rochester's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Rochester timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Rochester lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 79 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:56 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 12m near June down to 10h 25m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Rochester come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Buffalo, Belleville and Niagara Falls. Each is only a few minutes off Rochester's clock.
