How Fredericton's prayer times are worked out

From Fredericton, the Qibla is 64° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 9,505 km (5,906 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Fredericton's own coordinates (45.95°N, 66.67°W), not a national average. That is why Fredericton's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Fredericton timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Fredericton lies well west inside its Moncton time zone. So the sun peaks about 95 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:12 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 47m near June down to 10h 10m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Fredericton come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Saint John, Moncton and Lower Sackville. Each is only a few minutes off Fredericton's clock.
