Prayer Times in Columbia, South Carolina

Prayer times in Columbia are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (34.00°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across South Carolina. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Columbia's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in South Carolina and across the United States. They are drawn from Columbia's own coordinates (34.0007°N, 81.0348°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Columbia's prayer times are worked out

From Columbia, the Qibla is 55° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,236 km (6,982 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Columbia's own coordinates (34.00°N, 81.03°W), not a national average. That is why Columbia's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Columbia timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Columbia lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 93 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:11 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 15h 50m near June down to 11h 08m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Columbia come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Charlotte, Raleigh and Atlanta. Each is only a few minutes off Columbia's clock.
