Thunder Bay Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Thunder Bay, Canada

Prayer times in Thunder Bay are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (48.38°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Canada. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Thunder Bay's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Canada and across the United States. They are drawn from Thunder Bay's own coordinates (48.3820°N, 89.2502°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Thunder Bay's prayer times are worked out

From Thunder Bay, the Qibla is 47° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,753 km (6,681 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Thunder Bay's own coordinates (48.38°N, 89.25°W), not a national average. That is why Thunder Bay's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Thunder Bay timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Thunder Bay lies well west inside its Toronto time zone. So the sun peaks about 125 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:42 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 14m near June down to 9h 55m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Thunder Bay come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Sault Ste. Marie, Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Each is only a few minutes off Thunder Bay's clock.
