How Le Plateau-Mont-Royal's prayer times are worked out

From Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, the Qibla is 59° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 9,998 km (6,212 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Le Plateau-Mont-Royal's own coordinates (45.53°N, 73.58°W), not a national average. That is why Le Plateau-Mont-Royal's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Le Plateau-Mont-Royal lies well west inside its Toronto time zone. So the sun peaks about 63 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:39 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 41m near June down to 10h 13m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Le Plateau-Mont-Royal come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time.
