Prayer Times in Graz, Austria
Prayer times in Graz are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (47.07°N). We use the Muslim World League method, the one followed across Austria. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.
Graz's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Austria. They are drawn from Graz's own coordinates (47.0673°N, 15.4420°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.
How Graz's prayer times are worked out
From Graz, the Qibla is 134° from true north. Face southeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 3,596 km (2,234 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Graz's own coordinates (47.07°N, 15.44°E), not a national average. That is why Graz's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.
Day length is what moves the Graz timetable through the year. With the Muslim World League method, the longest daily fast — Fajr to Maghrib — runs about 18h 52m around June. It eases to 10h 21m by December. That is a 8h 31m swing, set by the city's latitude of 47.07°N. The farther a place sits from the equator, the wider the gap.
The Fajr and Isha angles for Graz come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. Graz sits west of its Vienna meridian. The sun peaks about 7 minutes after noon, so Dhuhr today is 1:05 PM. We also publish times for nearby Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Villach and Meidling. Each is only a few minutes off Graz's clock.

Two Asr times are in use in Austria
Austria's Muslim communities — Turkish- and Bosniak-rooted — are almost uniformly Hanafi, so this page shows the later Hanafi Asr alongside the standard time. The time shown above for Graz is the standard reckoning — 5:02 PM. The Hanafi time today is 6:06 PM. Follow whichever your mosque announces; you can make Hanafi the default in the settings above.
Recognised since 1912, unified since 2023
Austria recognised Islam by law in 1912, one of the first Western states to do so. The Islamgesetz, passed after the annexation of Bosnia, explicitly recognised the Hanafi rite. The IGGÖ (Islamic Religious Community in Austria) has carried that public-law status since 1979. In January 2023 the IGGÖ went further and introduced a unified national prayer calendar. It was developed with theologians and astronomers, to end discrepancies of up to an hour between competing tables. This page applies the Muslim World League calculation (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°) to this city's coordinates, so expect small differences from the IGGÖ calendar. Austria's Muslims number about 745,000, or 8.3% of the population (Statistik Austria, 2021). Clocks follow the EU's seasonal changes.
Vienna's Islamic Centre and the Hanafi heritage
The Vienna Islamic Centre in Floridsdorf was financed at King Faisal's pledge and inaugurated in 1979 by Austria's federal president. It remains the country's largest mosque, and its 32-metre minaret is a fixture of the Danube skyline. Austria's communities are the most uniformly Hanafi in Western Europe. Turkish-rooted congregations, organised largely through ATIB, share the same school as Bosniak ones; ATIB's imams come via Turkey's Diyanet. So the later, second-shadow Asr is the live convention here, and this page shows it alongside the standard time. Summer at 48°N brings seventeen-hour fasts and Isha near eleven. In midwinter, Maghrib falls around four in the afternoon.
