Prayer Times in Ar Rifā‘, Bahrain

Prayer times in Ar Rifā‘ are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (26.13°N). We use the Umm al-Qura method, the one followed across Bahrain. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Ar Rifā‘'s times use the Umm al-Qura method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Bahrain. They are drawn from Ar Rifā‘'s own coordinates (26.1300°N, 50.5550°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Ar Rifā‘'s prayer times are worked out

From Ar Rifā‘, the Qibla is 247° from true north. Face southwest to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 1,210 km (752 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Ar Rifā‘'s own coordinates (26.13°N, 50.55°E), not a national average. That is why Ar Rifā‘'s times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Ar Rifā‘ timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Ar Rifā‘ lies well east inside its Bahrain time zone. So the sun peaks about 15 minutes before clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 11:35 AM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 15h 20m near June down to 11h 55m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Ar Rifā‘ come from Umm al-Qura University, Makkah. The Umm al-Qura method sets Fajr when the sun is 18.5° below the horizon, and Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Riffa, Madīnat Ḩamad and Sitrah. Each is only a few minutes off Ar Rifā‘'s clock.

Prayer times in Bahrain

Bahrain is a Muslim-majority Gulf kingdom whose citizens are mostly Twelver Shia. Its Sunni minority includes the ruling Al Khalifa family. Expatriates now make up more than half of the island's residents. This page applies the Umm al-Qura calculation (Fajr 18.5°, with Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib) to the city's own coordinates. Bahrain keeps Arabia Standard Time (UTC+3) all year, and its low latitude keeps the fasting day fairly even across the seasons.

From the Khamis Mosque to Al Fateh

Bahrain's Khamis Mosque is among the oldest in the region. Its origins are traced to around the 11th century, before later rebuilding, and its twin minarets are a landmark of the old island. Its modern counterpart is the Ahmed Al-Fateh Grand Mosque in Manama, completed in 1987 and named after Ahmed Al Fateh. One of the largest mosques in the country, its halls hold more than 7,000 worshippers beneath a great fibreglass dome. Both Shia and Sunni mosques here announce the standard first-shadow Asr shown on this page.
