Prayer Times in Aktau, Kazakhstan

Prayer times in Aktau are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (43.66°N). We use the Muslim World League method, the one followed across Kazakhstan. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Aktau's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Kazakhstan. They are drawn from Aktau's own coordinates (43.6611°N, 51.1739°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Aktau's prayer times are worked out

From Aktau, the Qibla is 207° from true north. Face southwest to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 2,686 km (1,669 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Aktau's own coordinates (43.66°N, 51.17°E), not a national average. That is why Aktau's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Aktau timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Aktau lies well west inside its Aqtau time zone. So the sun peaks about 104 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:33 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 17h 49m near June down to 10h 40m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Aktau come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Zhanaozen, Sumqayıt and Bakıxanov. Each is only a few minutes off Aktau's clock.

Two Asr times are in use in Kazakhstan

Kazakh practice is traditionally Hanafi — the Spiritual Administration's tables reflect it — so this page shows the Hanafi Asr alongside the standard time. The time shown above for Aktau is the standard reckoning — 5:07 PM. The Hanafi time today is 6:01 PM. Follow whichever your mosque announces; you can make Hanafi the default in the settings above.

One clock for a continent-sized country

Kazakhstan made a remarkable change on 1 March 2024. After almost a century split across two time zones, the entire country moved to a single zone, UTC+5, with no daylight saving. For prayer times the consequence is real. Kazakhstan spans some 40 degrees of longitude. So solar noon in the far east now falls hours from the far west on the same clock. A per-city calculation, like this page's, is the only way to stay accurate. The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK) was established in 1990 and publishes official tables by its own method. This page uses the Muslim World League parameters (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°), so small differences from the official table are normal.

From Turkistan's mausoleum to Astana's domes

Kazakhstan's holiest site is the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkistan. It was built between 1389 and 1405 on Timur's order, for the twelfth-century Sufi master whose poetry carried Islam across the steppe. In 2003 it became the country's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The capital tells the modern chapter. The Hazrat Sultan Mosque (2012) was among Central Asia's largest until the Astana Grand Mosque opened in 2022 and took the regional title outright. Kazakh Islam is traditionally Hanafi, and mosques announce the later, second-shadow Asr — this page shows both reckonings.
