Lebanon's Muslim population is split roughly evenly between Sunnis and Shia. That matters for prayer times. Shia (Ja'fari) practice delays Maghrib until the redness after sunset has passed. It also permits combining Dhuhr with Asr, and Maghrib with Isha. A Shia timetable therefore differs from the Sunni one shown here.
The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque
The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque in downtown Beirut was inaugurated in 2008. The city's largest and best-known mosque, it is known as the "Blue Mosque," with a capacity of several thousand.
