Prayer Times in Singapore, Singapore

Singaporeprayer times are calculated based on the city's precise geographic coordinates (1.3521°N, 103.8198°E) using the JAKIM calculation method — the standard followed by most mosques in Singapore. Times shown are for today's date and update automatically at midnight.

The five daily prayers — Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha — are calculated from the sun's position relative to Singapore's latitude and longitude. As the sun's declination changes throughout the year, prayer times shift by several minutes each day. This is why a Singapore prayer time calendar for the full month is shown below — so you can plan ahead without checking daily.

How Singapore's prayer times are worked out

Singapore sits 7,269 km (4,517 miles) from the Kaaba in Mecca, so the Qibla from here is 293° from true north — you face northwest to pray. Fajr and Isha depend on how far the sun drops below the horizon, and Singapore follows the JAKIM method set by JAKIM, Malaysia's federal Islamic authority: Fajr begins when the sun is 20° below the horizon, and Isha when it reaches 18°. A city that used ISNA's 15° instead would get a noticeably different Fajr — which is why the method, not just the coordinates, decides the answer.

Day length is what really moves the timetable in Singapore. Measured with the JAKIM method, the longest daily fast here — from Fajr to Maghrib — runs about 13h 37m around June, while the shortest is roughly 13h 27m in December: a swing of 0h 10m across the year. That spread is set by Singapore's latitude (1.35°N); cities nearer the equator barely vary, while far-northern ones swing by many hours.

One local quirk worth knowing: Dhuhr in Singapore does not fall at 12:00. Because the city sits well west within its Asia/Singapore time zone, the sun peaks about 73 minutes after clock noon, and Dhuhr follows the sun rather than the clock — today it is at 1:12 PM. The nearest cities we also publish times for are Johor Bahru, Kampung Pasir Gudang Baru, Pasir Gudang — close enough that their times differ from Singapore's by only a few minutes.

Who sets prayer times in Singapore

Singapore has a clear official source: MUIS, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura), a statutory board that issues one national prayer timetable for the whole country. Its method uses Subuh at 20° and Isyak at 18° below the horizon — the same regional convention as neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia — and that is what this page applies. The Malay-Muslim majority follows the Shafi'i school, so Asr is called at the first shadow. Because Singapore is so compact, a single set of times applies across the entire island.

Masjid Sultan

The Sultan Mosque in Kampong Glam is Singapore's most important mosque. Its present Indo-Saracenic building was completed in 1932, replacing an original that dated to 1826, and it was gazetted a national monument in 1975. Its golden domes — their bases ringed with the ends of glass bottles donated by poorer Muslims so that everyone contributed to its construction — remain the focal point of the historic Malay-Muslim quarter and one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.
