Prayer Times in Salé Al Jadida, Morocco

Prayer times in Salé Al Jadida are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (34.00°N). We use the Muslim World League method, the one followed across Morocco. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Salé Al Jadida's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Morocco. They are drawn from Salé Al Jadida's own coordinates (33.9972°N, 6.7405°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Salé Al Jadida's prayer times are worked out

From Salé Al Jadida, the Qibla is 95° from true north. Face east to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 4,749 km (2,951 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Salé Al Jadida's own coordinates (34.00°N, 6.74°W), not a national average. That is why Salé Al Jadida's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Salé Al Jadida timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Salé Al Jadida lies well west inside its Casablanca time zone. So the sun peaks about 35 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:25 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 10m near June down to 11h 23m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Salé Al Jadida come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Salé, Rabat and Temara. Each is only a few minutes off Salé Al Jadida's clock.

Who sets prayer times in Morocco

Morocco's official prayer timetable is published by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in Rabat, which issues times for cities across the kingdom. The calculation commonly associated with Morocco uses a Fajr angle of 19° and an Isha angle of 17°. Moroccan religious life is built on a Maliki–Ash'ari framework. The Maliki school begins Asr at the first shadow, the same point as the Shafi'i reckoning. The later Hanafi Asr is therefore not the Moroccan norm.

From al-Qarawiyyin to the Hassan II Mosque

Morocco holds one of the oldest continuously functioning centres of learning anywhere: al-Qarawiyyin in Fez, founded between 857 and 859 by Fatima al-Fihri. Marrakesh's Koutoubia Mosque was founded in 1147, its minaret finished around 1195, and it became the model for minarets across the western Islamic world. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca was inaugurated in 1993 and stands partly over the Atlantic. Its minaret rises 210 metres, the second tallest in the world, and is topped by a laser beam aimed toward Mecca.
