Prayer Times in Rajshahi, Bangladesh

Rajshahiprayer times are calculated based on the city's precise geographic coordinates (24.3740°N, 88.6011°E) using the Karachi calculation method — the standard followed by most mosques in Bangladesh. Times shown are for today's date and update automatically at midnight.

The five daily prayers — Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha — are calculated from the sun's position relative to Rajshahi's latitude and longitude. As the sun's declination changes throughout the year, prayer times shift by several minutes each day. This is why a Rajshahi prayer time calendar for the full month is shown below — so you can plan ahead without checking daily.

How Rajshahi's prayer times are worked out

Rajshahi sits 4,982 km (3,096 miles) from the Kaaba in Mecca, so the Qibla from here is 276° from true north — you face west to pray. Fajr and Isha depend on how far the sun drops below the horizon, and Bangladesh follows the Karachi method set by the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi: Fajr begins when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha when it reaches 18°. A city that used ISNA's 15° instead would get a noticeably different Fajr — which is why the method, not just the coordinates, decides the answer.

Day length is what really moves the timetable in Rajshahi. Measured with the Karachi method, the longest daily fast here — from Fajr to Maghrib — runs about 15h 08m around June, while the shortest is roughly 11h 59m in December: a swing of 3h 09m across the year. That spread is set by Rajshahi's latitude (24.37°N); cities nearer the equator barely vary, while far-northern ones swing by many hours.

One local quirk worth knowing: Dhuhr in Rajshahi does not fall at 12:00. Because the city sits well west within its Asia/Dhaka time zone, the sun peaks about 14 minutes after clock noon, and Dhuhr follows the sun rather than the clock — today it is at 12:13 PM. The nearest cities we also publish times for are Puthia, Natore, Nawābganj — close enough that their times differ from Rajshahi's by only a few minutes.

Two Asr times are in use in Bangladesh

Bangladeshi mosques predominantly follow the Hanafi reckoning of Asr (shadow twice the object's length), which falls roughly 75 minutes after the standard reckoning. The time shown above for Rajshahi is the standard reckoning — 3:34 PM. The Hanafi time today is 4:52 PM. Follow whichever your mosque announces; you can make Hanafi the default in the settings above.

Who sets prayer times in Bangladesh

Bangladesh does have an official timetable. The Islamic Foundation Bangladesh — an autonomous government body under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, established by ordinance in 1975 — publishes the national prayer schedule, built on a Dhaka baseline with district-by-district adjustments, and most Bangladeshi calendars and apps derive from it. The underlying calculation follows the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi method (Fajr 18°, Isha 18°), which is what this page uses. Because the country is overwhelmingly Sunni Hanafi, local mosques announce the later, second-shadow Asr.

Mosques and gatherings

The national mosque, Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka, was completed in 1968 and holds more than 40,000 worshippers. In Bagerhat, the fifteenth-century Sixty Dome Mosque (Shat Gambuj Masjid) anchors the UNESCO-listed Historic Mosque City. Bangladesh is also home to the Bishwa Ijtema at Tongi on the banks of the Turag, an annual Tablighi Jamaat gathering that draws millions and ranks among the largest Muslim congregations anywhere in the world.
