Providence Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Providence, Rhode Island

Prayer times in Providence are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (41.82°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Rhode Island. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Providence's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Rhode Island and across the United States. They are drawn from Providence's own coordinates (41.8240°N, 71.4128°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Providence's prayer times are worked out

From Providence, the Qibla is 60° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,057 km (6,249 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Providence's own coordinates (41.82°N, 71.41°W), not a national average. That is why Providence's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Providence timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Providence lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 54 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:31 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 57m near June down to 10h 32m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Providence come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Cambridge, Boston and Hartford. Each is only a few minutes off Providence's clock.
