Prayer Times in Oued Zem, Morocco

Prayer times in Oued Zem are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (32.86°N). We use the Muslim World League method, the one followed across Morocco. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Oued Zem's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Morocco. They are drawn from Oued Zem's own coordinates (32.8627°N, 6.5736°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Oued Zem's prayer times are worked out

From Oued Zem, the Qibla is 94° from true north. Face east to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 4,724 km (2,936 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Oued Zem's own coordinates (32.86°N, 6.57°W), not a national average. That is why Oued Zem's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Oued Zem timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Oued Zem lies well west inside its Casablanca time zone. So the sun peaks about 35 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 1:11 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 02m near June down to 11h 28m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Oued Zem come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Bejaâd, Khouribga and Kasba Tadla. Each is only a few minutes off Oued Zem's clock.

Who sets prayer times in Morocco

Morocco's official prayer timetable is published by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in Rabat, which issues times for cities across the kingdom. The calculation commonly associated with Morocco uses a Fajr angle of 19° and an Isha angle of 17°. Moroccan religious life is built on a Maliki–Ash'ari framework. The Maliki school begins Asr at the first shadow, the same point as the Shafi'i reckoning. The later Hanafi Asr is therefore not the Moroccan norm.

From al-Qarawiyyin to the Hassan II Mosque

Morocco holds one of the oldest continuously functioning centres of learning anywhere: al-Qarawiyyin in Fez, founded between 857 and 859 by Fatima al-Fihri. Marrakesh's Koutoubia Mosque was founded in 1147, its minaret finished around 1195, and it became the model for minarets across the western Islamic world. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca was inaugurated in 1993 and stands partly over the Atlantic. Its minaret rises 210 metres, the second tallest in the world, and is topped by a laser beam aimed toward Mecca.
