How Muscat's prayer times are worked out

From Muscat, the Qibla is 266° from true north. Face west to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 1,923 km (1,195 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Muscat's own coordinates (23.58°N, 58.41°E), not a national average. That is why Muscat's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Muscat timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Muscat lies well west inside its Muscat time zone. So the sun peaks about 14 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:04 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 15h 06m near June down to 12h 04m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Muscat come from Umm al-Qura University, Makkah. The Umm al-Qura method sets Fajr when the sun is 18.5° below the horizon, and Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib.
