Prayer Times in Maymana, Afghanistan

Prayer times in Maymana are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (35.92°N). We use the Karachi method, the one followed across Afghanistan. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Maymana's times use the Karachi method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Afghanistan. They are drawn from Maymana's own coordinates (35.9214°N, 64.7836°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Maymana's prayer times are worked out

From Maymana, the Qibla is 243° from true north. Face southwest to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 2,906 km (1,806 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Maymana's own coordinates (35.92°N, 64.78°E), not a national average. That is why Maymana's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Maymana timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Maymana lies well west inside its Kabul time zone. So the sun peaks about 19 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:09 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 26m near June down to 11h 15m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Maymana come from the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi. The Karachi method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 18°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Sar-e Pul, Shibirghān and Balkh. Each is only a few minutes off Maymana's clock.

Two Asr times are in use in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is firmly Hanafi — mosques call the later, second-shadow Asr — so this page shows both times. The time shown above for Maymana is the standard reckoning — 3:42 PM. The Hanafi time today is 4:39 PM. Follow whichever your mosque announces; you can make Hanafi the default in the settings above.

Prayer times on the half-hour clock

Afghanistan runs on one of the world's few half-hour time zones — UTC+4:30, kept year-round with no daylight saving. There is no single national timetable authority. The regional standard is the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi calculation (Fajr 18°, Isha 18°). That is exactly what this page applies to this city's own coordinates. Afghan practice is firmly Hanafi, and the school is embedded in the country's legal tradition. Local mosques therefore call Asr on the second-shadow reckoning, roughly an hour after the standard time. Both are shown here.

Herat's Friday Mosque and the Blue Mosque of Mazar

The Great Mosque of Herat has anchored the country's west since 1200. The Ghurid sultan Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad laid its foundation and was buried there three years later. Timurid, Mughal and later hands have extended its tilework ever since. In the north, Mazar-i-Sharif takes its name ('the noble shrine') from the Blue Mosque. The present blue-tiled complex was built in 1481 under the Timurid ruler Husayn Bayqara. Local tradition holds that Ali ibn Abi Talib is buried there, though most Muslims place his tomb at Najaf. Between them stretch the mosque courtyards of Kabul and Kandahar, where the five prayers structure the day as they have for thirteen centuries.
