Prayer Times in Luleå, Sweden
Prayer times in Luleå are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (65.58°N). We use the Muslim World League method, the one followed across Sweden. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.
Luleå's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Sweden. They are drawn from Luleå's own coordinates (65.5841°N, 22.1547°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.
How Luleå's prayer times are worked out
From Luleå, the Qibla is 157° from true north. Face southeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 5,074 km (3,153 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Luleå's own coordinates (65.58°N, 22.15°E), not a national average. That is why Luleå's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.
Daylight is the hard part in Luleå. At 65.58°N, 22.15°E, the sun never drops the full 18° below the horizon in midsummer. So the twilight that sets Fajr and Isha never arrives. Read literally, the fast would run past twenty hours. Mosques in Luleå follow an agreed rule instead. Most use the times of the nearest town where night still falls, or Mecca's clock. A calculated Fajr works in the darker months. Near midsummer, check with your local mosque.
The Fajr and Isha angles for Luleå come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Umeå, Sundsvall and Gävle. Each is only a few minutes off Luleå's clock.

Sweden's unified timetable and the midnight-sun problem
Sweden is unusual. Since 1 May 2016 its mosques have shared one national timetable. The Swedish Imam Council adopted it, and Islamiska Förbundet publishes it. It is based on the Turkish Diyanet's calculation, which uses the same 18°/17° twilight angles as the Muslim World League method this page applies. So the times here line up closely with the national convention. The official table adds small precaution margins. The real challenge is latitude. From early May to early August, true night never falls over much of Sweden. The Imam Council's own guidance notes that the sharia signs for Isha and Fajr disappear. Northern communities therefore follow the nearest city with usable times. For Ramadan, guidance from the European Council for Fatwa permits estimation where the signs are absent.
Mosques of Stockholm, Malmö and the north
The Stockholm Mosque on Södermalm opened in 2000. It is named for its Emirati benefactor, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is the capital's largest. Malmö's mosque, inaugurated in 1984, was among the country's first purpose-built. Sweden keeps no religious statistics. Pew estimated its Muslim-background population at roughly 8% in 2016, among the highest shares in Western Europe. Its roots run from Iraq and Syria to Somalia, Bosnia and Turkey. Clocks change with the EU, on the last Sundays of March and October. In midsummer the far north sees no sunset at all, and communities in Kiruna have been advised to follow Stockholm's timetable.

Luleå Prayer Times — FAQ
What direction is Qibla from Luleå?
The Qibla direction from Luleå, Sweden is 157° from true north. Face southeast toward Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which lies 5,074 km (3,153 miles) away.
How long is the fast in Luleå?
Luleå sits at 65.58°N. Around midsummer the sun never drops 18° below the horizon there, so no calculated Fajr or Isha is meaningful, and an angle-based fast would run past 20 hours. Mosques here follow an agreed convention instead. That is usually the nearest city where night still falls, or Mecca's clock. In winter the calculated times apply normally.
How do Swedish Muslims pray Isha when there is no real night?
Sweden's national timetable handles it. It was adopted in 2016 on the Diyanet calculation. Where the twilight signs for Isha and Fajr disappear in high summer, times are estimated per the European Council for Fatwa's guidance. Far-northern towns follow the nearest city with usable times. This page's Muslim World League calculation uses the same 18°/17° angles as the national convention.
