Prayer Times in Kuwait City, Kuwait
Prayer times in Kuwait City are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (29.37°N). We use the Kuwait method, the one followed across Kuwait. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.
Kuwait City's times use the Kuwait method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Kuwait. They are drawn from Kuwait City's own coordinates (29.3670°N, 47.9743°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.
How Kuwait City's prayer times are worked out
From Kuwait City, the Qibla is 225° from true north. Face southwest to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 1,203 km (748 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Kuwait City's own coordinates (29.37°N, 47.97°E), not a national average. That is why Kuwait City's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.
Day length is what moves the Kuwait City timetable through the year. With the Kuwait method, the longest daily fast — Fajr to Maghrib — runs about 15h 37m around June. It eases to 11h 41m by December. That is a 3h 56m swing, set by the city's latitude of 29.37°N. The farther a place sits from the equator, the wider the gap.
The Fajr and Isha angles for Kuwait City come from Kuwait's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. The Kuwait method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17.5°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. Kuwait City sits close to its Kuwait meridian, so Dhuhr lands near midday — 11:45 AM today. We also publish times for nearby Ḩawallī, Salmiya and Al Farwānīyah. Each is only a few minutes off Kuwait City's clock.

Who sets prayer times in Kuwait
Kuwait's prayer times are administered by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. The calculation uses Fajr at 18° and Isha at 17.5° below the horizon. Both are angle-based, unlike the fixed 90-minute Isha of Saudi Arabia and Qatar. That is the method this page applies. The Maliki school predominates among Kuwaiti Sunnis, so Asr is called at the first shadow. Kuwait also has a substantial Twelver Shia minority, whose timetables are calculated under Shia juristic rules.
The Grand Mosque of Kuwait
Al Masjid Al Kabir, the Grand Mosque of Kuwait in Kuwait City, was officially opened in 1986 after construction from 1979. It was designed in an Andalusian style by the Iraqi architect Mohamed Saleh Makiya. Its main hall holds around 10,000 worshippers, and total capacity reaches much higher across its prayer spaces on major occasions. It is the country's official state mosque, and it famously came through the 1990 Iraqi invasion and occupation intact. It has remained the focal point of national religious life ever since.
