Prayer Times in Jounieh, Lebanon

Prayer times in Jounieh are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (33.98°N). We use the Muslim World League method, the one followed across Lebanon. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Jounieh's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Lebanon. They are drawn from Jounieh's own coordinates (33.9808°N, 35.6178°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Jounieh's prayer times are worked out

From Jounieh, the Qibla is 162° from true north. Face south to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 1,456 km (905 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Jounieh's own coordinates (33.98°N, 35.62°E), not a national average. That is why Jounieh's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Jounieh timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Jounieh lies well east inside its Beirut time zone. So the sun peaks about 14 minutes before clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:36 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 10m near June down to 11h 23m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Jounieh come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Beirut, Aley and Zahlé. Each is only a few minutes off Jounieh's clock.

Who sets prayer times in Lebanon

Lebanon has no single national timetable. For Sunnis, Dar al-Fatwa is the official religious authority; it is the office of the Grand Mufti. The Higher Islamic Shia Council serves the country's large Twelver Shia community. Sunni timetables commonly follow Muslim World League angles (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°), the basis this page applies. Lebanon's Muslim population is split roughly evenly between Sunnis and Shia. That matters for prayer times. Shia (Ja'fari) practice delays Maghrib until the redness after sunset has passed. It also permits combining Dhuhr with Asr, and Maghrib with Isha. A Shia timetable therefore differs from the Sunni one shown here.

The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque

The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque in downtown Beirut was inaugurated in 2008. The city's largest and best-known mosque, it is known as the "Blue Mosque," with a capacity of several thousand. It stands directly beside the St. George Maronite Cathedral, and in the heart of Beirut the call to prayer regularly sounds alongside church bells: a compact, visible emblem of Lebanon's Muslim–Christian coexistence.
