Prayer Times in Ipoh, Malaysia

Prayer times in Ipoh are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (4.58°N). We use the JAKIM method, the one followed across Malaysia. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Ipoh's times use the JAKIM method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Malaysia. They are drawn from Ipoh's own coordinates (4.5841°N, 101.0829°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Ipoh's prayer times are worked out

From Ipoh, the Qibla is 292° from true north. Face west to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 6,851 km (4,257 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Ipoh's own coordinates (4.58°N, 101.08°E), not a national average. That is why Ipoh's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

Ipoh sits just 4.58°N of the equator. Its prayer calendar barely shifts across the year. With the JAKIM method, the longest daily fast is about 13h 48m. The shortest is about 13h 15m. That is a swing of only 0h 33m between June and December. Whenever Ramadan falls, fasting hours here stay much the same — something cities farther from the equator never see.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Ipoh come from JAKIM, Malaysia's federal Islamic authority. The JAKIM method sets Fajr when the sun is 20° below the horizon, and Isha at 18°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Kampung Manjoi, Bercham and Parit. Each is only a few minutes off Ipoh's clock.

JAKIM, e-Solat and Malaysia's prayer zones

Malaysia's official prayer times come from JAKIM, published through the e-Solat portal. That is Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia, the Department of Islamic Development under the Prime Minister's Department. Its method uses Fajr 20° and Isha 18°, which is what this page applies. Its criteria are set according to the school of Imam Shafi'i, the officially recognised madhab. Malaysia does not publish a single national timetable. Instead JAKIM divides the country into prayer-time zones, each with a code. Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya fall under WLY01. Every district maps to a zone with its own times. State religious councils such as JAIS in Selangor hold jurisdiction at state level.

The national mosques

Masjid Negara, the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, was completed in 1965 and holds 15,000 worshippers, its folded-plate roof a deliberate break from domed convention. The Putra Mosque in Putrajaya, finished in 1999 and clad in rose-tinted granite, seats another 15,000 beside the lake. The largest in the country is the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque in Shah Alam, known as the "Blue Mosque". It was completed in 1988 and can hold up to 24,000.

Mosques in Ipoh

Mosques in and around Ipoh include Masjid Paloh, Masjid Panglima Kinta, Masjid Pakistani Ipoh, Surau An Nur, Surau Al-Falah and Masjid Sultan Idris Shah Ke II. That is the congregation, called a few minutes after each prayer starts.
