Prayer Times in Elizabeth, New Jersey

Prayer times in Elizabeth are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (40.66°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across New Jersey. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Elizabeth's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in New Jersey and across the United States. They are drawn from Elizabeth's own coordinates (40.6640°N, 74.2107°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Elizabeth's prayer times are worked out

From Elizabeth, the Qibla is 58° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 10,324 km (6,415 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Elizabeth's own coordinates (40.66°N, 74.21°W), not a national average. That is why Elizabeth's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Elizabeth timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Elizabeth lies well west inside its New York time zone. So the sun peaks about 65 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:42 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 45m near June down to 10h 38m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Elizabeth come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Newark, Staten Island and Jersey City. Each is only a few minutes off Elizabeth's clock.
