Birmingham Prayer Times

Prayer Times in Birmingham, Alabama

Prayer times in Birmingham are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (33.52°N). We use the ISNA method, the one followed across Alabama. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Birmingham's times use the ISNA method. That is the standard used by most mosques in Alabama and across the United States. They are drawn from Birmingham's own coordinates (33.5186°N, 86.8104°W). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Birmingham's prayer times are worked out

From Birmingham, the Qibla is 51° from true north. Face northeast to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 11,693 km (7,266 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Birmingham's own coordinates (33.52°N, 86.81°W), not a national average. That is why Birmingham's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Birmingham timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Birmingham lies well west inside its Chicago time zone. So the sun peaks about 56 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:32 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 15h 46m near June down to 11h 09m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Birmingham come from the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA method sets Fajr when the sun is 15° below the horizon, and Isha at 15°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Atlanta, Nashville and Jackson. Each is only a few minutes off Birmingham's clock.
