The white-marble mosque of Kipchak
The Türkmenbaşy Ruhy Mosque in Kipchak, just outside Ashgabat, is the largest mosque in Central Asia. It is a vast white-marble building, completed in 2004 and holding around 10,000 worshippers. A family mausoleum of former president Saparmurat Niyazov stands beside it. Ashgabat itself is famous for its expanses of white marble, and the mosque is the country's foremost Islamic landmark.
