Al Qāmishlī's times use the Muslim World League method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in Syria. They are drawn from Al Qāmishlī's own coordinates (37.0521°N, 41.2314°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.
How Al Qāmishlī's prayer times are worked out
From Al Qāmishlī, the Qibla is 185° from true north. Face south to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 1,743 km (1,083 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Al Qāmishlī's own coordinates (37.05°N, 41.23°E), not a national average. That is why Al Qāmishlī's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.
One local quirk shapes the Al Qāmishlī timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Al Qāmishlī lies well west inside its Damascus time zone. So the sun peaks about 24 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:00 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 35m near June down to 11h 11m in December.
The Fajr and Isha angles for Al Qāmishlī come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Nusaybin, Midyat and Mardin. Each is only a few minutes off Al Qāmishlī's clock.

Prayer times in Syria — and a recent clock change
Syrian prayer timetables are traditionally issued through the Ministry of Awqaf and the mosques of each city. This page applies the Muslim World League calculation (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°) to this city's own coordinates. Mind the clock. In October 2022 Syria abolished daylight saving and fixed its time permanently at UTC+3. Any timetable or app configuration saved before then may drift an hour in winter. The times here are computed against the current permanent UTC+3, so no adjustment is needed.
The Umayyad Mosque and thirteen centuries of prayer
The Umayyad Mosque of Damascus was completed in 715 under Caliph al-Walid I. It is one of the oldest and most revered mosques in the world, built on a sacred site used for millennia. It holds a shrine that tradition associates with the head of John the Baptist (Yahya), honoured by Muslims and Christians alike. Aleppo's Great Mosque is being restored; its Seljuk minaret was a casualty of the recent war. Together they are a reminder that Syria's mosques carry both the deepest history and the freshest scars of the region.
