How Aïn Touta's prayer times are worked out

From Aïn Touta, the Qibla is 106° from true north. Face east to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 3,639 km (2,261 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Aïn Touta's own coordinates (35.38°N, 5.90°E), not a national average. That is why Aïn Touta's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Aïn Touta timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Aïn Touta lies well west inside its Algiers time zone. So the sun peaks about 45 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:21 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 16h 21m near June down to 11h 18m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Aïn Touta come from the Muslim World League. The Muslim World League method sets Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, and Isha at 17°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Batna, Barika and Biskra. Each is only a few minutes off Aïn Touta's clock.
