Prayer Times in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Prayer times in Abu Dhabi are worked out each day from the city's coordinates (24.45°N). We use the Dubai method, the one followed across the United Arab Emirates. The five times shift by a minute or two each day as the sun moves. The full month is listed below.

Abu Dhabi's times use the Dubai method. That is the standard followed by most mosques in United Arab Emirates. They are drawn from Abu Dhabi's own coordinates (24.4539°N, 54.3773°E). The schedule updates automatically at midnight, with no manual setting.

How Abu Dhabi's prayer times are worked out

From Abu Dhabi, the Qibla is 260° from true north. Face west to pray toward the Kaaba. It lies 1,527 km (949 miles) away in a straight line across the globe. Every time on this page is worked out from Abu Dhabi's own coordinates (24.45°N, 54.38°E), not a national average. That is why Abu Dhabi's times and its Qibla differ a little from cities a short distance away.

One local quirk shapes the Abu Dhabi timetable: midday prayer does not land at 12:00. Abu Dhabi lies well west inside its Dubai time zone. So the sun peaks about 33 minutes after clock noon. Dhuhr follows the sun, not the clock — today it falls at 12:31 PM. Across the year, the fast here runs from about 15h 12m near June down to 12h 02m in December.

The Fajr and Isha angles for Abu Dhabi come from the Dubai Awqaf authority. The Dubai method sets Fajr when the sun is 18.2° below the horizon, and Isha at 18.2°. Use ISNA's 15° instead and Fajr here would move by several minutes. So the method — not the coordinates alone — settles the final time. We also publish times for nearby Musaffah, Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Khalifah A City. Each is only a few minutes off Abu Dhabi's clock.

Who sets prayer times in the UAE

Prayer timetables in the UAE are issued federally by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat (Awqaf). In Dubai they come specifically from IACAD, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. This page uses the widely adopted "Dubai" method, with Fajr and Isha both at 18.2° below the horizon. It closely tracks what UAE residents see. The government's own Awqaf and IACAD timetables can differ by a minute or two. The Maliki school predominates, so Asr is called at the first shadow. The Emirates' population is heavily international, and mosques serve worshippers from across the Muslim world.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Dubai's mosques

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, built between 1994 and 2007, is the country's spiritual centrepiece and holds more than 40,000 worshippers. Its main prayer hall contains the largest hand-knotted carpet in the world, roughly 5,600 square metres, woven in Iran. Above it hangs one of the largest chandeliers ever made. In Dubai, the Jumeirah Mosque opened in 1979 in the Fatimid style. It is one of the few mosques in the emirate that welcomes non-Muslim visitors on guided tours. That makes it a well-known point of contact between the UAE's Muslim majority and its large expatriate population.

Mosques in Abu Dhabi

Mosques in and around Abu Dhabi include مسجد مريم أم عيسى, Al Mansoori Mosque, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Mosque, مسجد سعد بن معاذ, Abdullah Salem Mosque and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Mosque. That is the congregation, called a few minutes after each prayer starts.
